Use ambient sounds during reading sessions

PocketShelf includes an ambient sounds feature to help you create a more focused and immersive reading environment. You can access and control these background sounds directly from the reading timer screen whenever you start a session.

How to Select an Ambient Sound

Once you begin a reading session and the timer is active, you will see an option to choose a background sound. To enable a sound:

  1. Navigate to the book you are currently reading and start a new session by tapping the play icon.
  2. On the reading timer screen, tap the button that says None, located below the pause button.
  3. A menu will appear with a list of available sounds. Tap on your desired sound to activate it.

Available Sound Options

You can choose from several soundscapes to accompany your reading. The current options are:

  • None: This is the default setting and plays no sound.
  • Rain: Plays a continuous, gentle rain sound.
  • Ocean: Plays the sound of calming ocean waves.

To change the sound or turn it off, simply tap the sound button again during your session and make a new selection. Using headphones is recommended for the best and most immersive audio experience.
